Worst Pollutions in History

Assalamualaikum everyone, in this blog I am glad to talk about one of the worst pollution in history ever occured. Based from https://www.history.com/news/7-deadly-environmental-disasters, I choose Chernobyl nuclear power station in Ukraine that went horribly wrong affecting most of people and the environment around.

Chernobyl disasters occured in 1986 at nuclear power station in Soviet Union which are one of the worst nuclear disasters ever happened. According to https://www.britannica.com/ the station consisted of four reactors, each capable of producing 1000 megawatts of electric power. The disasters happened because of the technicians in the power plant at reactor Unit 4 attempted an experiment but it went wrong resulting the disaster on April 25 until 26 1986. Long story short, this resulting the power plant to occured uncommon chain reaction of the nuclear. There are some heavy explosions that triggered a large fireball causing the power plant including heavy steel and concrete to an explosions. Then, this incident the nuclear matter or radioactive into the atmosphere all over Chernobyl.

The radioactive pollutions into the atmosphere makes nearly 30,000 people of Pryp'yat began to evacuated the area.  The radioactive contamination that have been released into the atmosphere have been affected several areas too took about nine days to Western Europe including Belarus. According to the report, there are 2 operating staff dead which killed them because of the explosion while 134 station staff and firemen on the operation to stabilize the reactor , cleanup and other emergency operation were hospitalized due to absorbing high nuclear radiation. Among of these 134 people some of them have died within few days and some of them were suspected cancer within 10 years. While atleast 20,000 children got tyroid cancer from the radiation.

Chernobyl Today

Today Chernobyl become exclusions zone left with ghost town of Prypyat. Chernobyl become the museum even though does not have the official status. However, to prevent the radiation according to https://www.thebalance.com/  the workers constructed a concrete and steel as new shield around Unit 4 because this structured considered weakened, so permanent structure were built around it and it cost $765 million.

Prevention

Some of this prevention I have come up myself combining with some search on the internet and improvise it which are:

1. The plant must be designed to safety standards in effect and incorporated safe features

2. The operators must be train and understand precisely to manage the power plants including any incident

3. Have a good general safety principles including involving international and local if  any incident occured
